Yayoi Kusama – Inspired by Hallucinations.

Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist who has been intrigued by the concept of infinity and dots. She creates striking work that is inspired directly from her hallucinations. It should be noted that Kusama has been living in a psychiatric institution for the past four decades, but this doesn’t make her work any less captivating.

Kusama’s largest and latest room to date is titled Filled with the Brilliance of Life. Hundreds of LED lights and many mirrors were used to create small dots which could be compared to the galaxy, fireflies, or wherever your imagination is taken.

Many outside sources can spark the creative flow. Personally, I love the inspiration of vintage photography. Witnessing the perspective of the way life used to be is refreshing and it’s interesting to compare society from now to then.

Painting with Shadows and Lights

Rashad Alakbarov is an artist from Azerbaijan who uses a random array of items and strategic placement of lighting to create paintings on walls. Upon first glance at the wall projections, I wouldn’t have expected them to be created from items like colored airplanes and water bottles. It’s pretty cool.
